Treatment light for skin cancer

Traditionally, skin cancer has been surgically removed, often resulting in scarring. Photocure, a Radiumhospitalet spin-off, came up with an alternative solution; a medicated cream targeting cancerous cells, which becomes toxic when exposed to a specific red light. With Photocure, Adigo developed Aktilite, the light source for this treatment. Easy setup and precise LED temperature control was key for a consistent wavelength and energy output, critical for effective treatment. The result was a medical device that uniformly activates the cream, treating cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. Aktilite earned the Norwegian Design Council's Product Design Award, a significant contribution to skin cancer treatment and patient outcomes.
